Ambulance Transport Billing

The back of a "Quilcene Fire Rescue" vehicle with lights and reflective stripes.

Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 2 operates 2 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances staffed with emergency medical technicians (EMTs).

Advanced Life Support (ALS) services are requested as needed from East Jefferson Fire Rescue, Brinnon Fire Department, Life Flight, and AirLift Northwest. ALS incidents make up a small amount of the District's emergency medical services (EMS) transports.

It is the policy of the District that no person will be denied treatment or transport to a definitive care facility, regardless of the patient’s or patient’s family’s ability to pay for service.

The District bills for EMS transport services utilizing System Design West. The District does not create the bills, monitor billing, or collect the money for ambulance transport. This is all done by System Design West. Any inquiries regarding a bill, payment, or questions should be referred to:

BILLING SERVICES

Section 52.12.131 RCW allows fire districts that provide emergency medical services (EMS) to establish and collect reasonable charges for those services. In 2013, the District established EMS ambulance transport billing to offset the high costs involved in providing the service to our community. Resolution 2022-005 sets the current fees as follows:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) $700.00
  • Advanced Life Support, Level 1 (ALS1) $800.00
  • Advanced Life Support, Level 2 (ALS2) $900.00
  • Mileage Charge $19.00 per mile

Federal and state law protects you from ‘surprise billing’ or ‘balance billing’ if you receive emergency care:
